内容简介:
I shall examine here the reasons why most of our plans fail when they aim at producing a desirable optimal state (spontaneity, deep calm, grace, ease, etc.). Drawing on early Taoist texts and modern psychotherapy, I shall account for the main hindrances and obstacles to the production of these optimal states. Are there any methods to bypass the paradox of the production of such states that require oblivion and non-action (wu wei 无言)? From this perspective on action, silence appears as an unexpected resource for the production of states that cannot just be willed. Among possible solutions to this problem, I shall examine one interpretation of the famous concept of non-action: non-speaking (wu yan) or silence. How can silence become an active resource and how can it favor the success of certain actions? How should we envision the function and input of silence regarding the life of the mind and in particular its intentional structure? Some philosophers and psychotherapists have underscored the importance in certain contexts of not putting words on what we are doing in order to keep things running smoothly. This lecture will present materials culled from early taoist texts and contemporary works of philosophy in order to explore several uses of non-action (wu wei 无为) and silence (wu yan) in daily life, and explore the implication of theses uses on our vision of teaching, transmission and human relationships.
