Curriculum Vitae
Enrique Rodriguez Larreta , Social Anthropologist and Intellectual Historian, Director of the Institute of Cultural Pluralism at Candido Mendes University, Rio de Janeiro Brazil. He received his PHD from the University of Stockholm. His main research interest are 1) Transcultural intellectual history mainly in relation with nationalism and global modernities, 2) Social and Philosophical Anthropological theory in relation with intellectual history and philosophy. His books include Gold is Illusion, the Garimpeiros of Tapajoz Valley in the Brazilian Amazon , Gilberto Freyre , A Cultural Biography and several edited volumes and Book Chapters as Media and Social Perception (Ed), The Self in the Network ( Ed) The Global Clash of Inequalities ( book chapter) in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
He is the Academic Advisor of the international Conferences of the Academy of Latinity and former coordinator with Professor Candido Mendes of the UNESCO initiative Agenda of the Millenium.(1998-2001) organizing more than 40 Conferences around the world under the last 15 years with the participation of more than 200 outstanding scholars from different regions and countries.
Professor Larreta’s actual research is about the Cultural and Social transformations of National Spaces in the context of formation of a possible Global Ecumene in the Age of Globalization. Besides his academic work Professor Larreta has worked in the field of Art and Politics of Memory about the kidnapping of people and torture in the Latin America’s dirty war. (The Orletti Rapport, Installation and Exhibition presented in Montevideo ( Uruguay) and Buenos Aires (Argentina ) and he has been active active in the public debate in Latin America on political and cultural issues under many years.

The three Lectures/ Seminars are related with the subject of my suggested course at the SI-MIAN INSTITUTE. They explore central topics in our global circumstance today connecting relevant epistemological issues with case studies and examples from a comparative perspective.
1) A Catholic Modernity? Reflections on an Argentinian Pope in the Age of Globalization
2) Populism and Post Populism in the Contemporary World :A Genealogy. With special concentration in the Latin America experience.

The Course is coming to be organized in a two-hour lecture every week based in interrelated topics: The Global; geopolitics; anthropology ;Global History; world literature.
The course is conceived for the Spring semester Six Month period of lectures and research at the Institute. I ‘m finishing two research related to China: Borges andChina and The Idea of Asia and Latin America, A Genealogy. And I hope to complete this work at the Si-Mian Institute using some of the research findings and analysis in my lectures and course.
