Abstract of the Lecture:

This lecture discusses the history commemoration and politics in contemporary Japanese Public Culture, with particular reference to memories of the war history. It will analyze both what has been commemorated, and why issues of war remembrance have acquired political and diplomatic significance at particular times and in particular places across the region.

Edward Vickers is a Professor at Kyushu University, Japan. He was a Reader in Education at Institute of Education, University of London; and was a “Foreign expert” and textbook editor, People’s Education Publishing House.
