Abstract of the Lecture:

This paper considers how to associate global ethics with the 24th WCP, the first held in China. The four-step argument starts with the introduction of the notion of a “dialogical civilization” in connection the classic notion of tianxia, which has evolved to refer to the whole nation and the whole world: “All are Equal Citizens under Heaven” (tianxia gongmin). The second step assesses the impact of the work done by the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie at the global level by means of past and future initiatives. The third step considers science and foreign policy issues and compares China’s current policy for research and innovation within a “Community of Common Destiny for all Humankind” (renlei mingyun gongtongti) with the global impact aimed at by the European Union with Horizon Europe, whose missions are based on the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals. The fourth step wraps up the paper by looking into case-studies related to cultural innovation involving diaspora Chinese youths.
