办班旨趣
  为了推进中国当代史(中华人民共和国史)的研究,发现青年人才,夯实资料研读的基本功,华东师范大学中国当代史研究中心和伯克利加州大学东亚研究中心、哈佛大学费正清研究中心决定共同举办中华人民共和国史系列高级研修班。
  本届研修班在中国上海举行,将着重于研读1950-1960年代中国的档案与民间史料。

研修内容:
  一、邀请中国当代史知名研究专家威廉•柯比、叶文心、沈大卫、王笛、杨奎松、曹树基、韩钢、张济顺等教授做专题讲座。
  二、研修学员集中进行论文写作计划的报告与交流,专家参与讨论和讲评。

招生对象与要求:
  一、凡海内外各大学从事中国当代史研究的博士研究生和青年教师均可报名参加。
  二、本届研修班要求报名学员需提交一篇以史料和档案研究为基础的研究大纲,范围限于政治、社会、文化方面,字数应不少于5000汉字,文中征引资料请用页下注格式,文末请附研究大纲的参考文献目录。
  三、有意者请于2011年12月1日前提交申请材料(附件),并于2012年1月4日前提交报告的电子文本。主办方将约请专家评审报告,并于2012年2月10日前发出正式录取通知。

费用
  一、中国大陆学员往返交通费用可向华东师范大学中国当代史研究中心申请补助。
  二、国外学员旅费可向伯克利加州大学东亚研究所和哈佛大学费正清东亚研究中心申请补助。
  三、学员在研修班期间的食宿费用均由主办方华东师范大学承担。

Advanced Research Workshop on Contemporary Chinese History
Application Information for Harvard and UC Berkeley participants

Purpose and Focus of the Workshop:
The Center for PRC History, East China Normal University, the Institute of East Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley and the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University are pleased to jointly offer the “Advanced Research Workshop on Contemporary Chinese History” focusing on China’s archival and social history materials centering upon the first years and decades of the founding of the PRC , The purpose of the workshop is to promote a comprehensive study of the history of China across the 1949 divide, train young scholars of talent, and explore the rich archival materials that have come to light.

Dates:  May 28 - June 6, 2012 (ten days)

Place:  Shanghai, China

Workshop Content:
1.  Leading scholars on 20th-century Chinese history such as William C. Kirby, Wen-hsin Yeh, David Shen, Wang Di, Yang Kuisong, Cao Shuji, Han Gang, Zhang Jishun and others will be invited to present lectures on special topics.
2.  Participants will present and exchange their working papers and research plans. Senior scholars will offer comments.                                                                                      

Participants and Requirements

1. Advanced doctoral students and recent PhDs engaged in the study of PRC history from Harvard University and the University of California at Berkeley are invited to apply to their respective institutions. Applicants from other U.S. universities may be considered on a space available basis. PRC applicants will apply directly to East China Normal University.

2. Applicants must submit a research outline/plan (700 word max) plus a reference list indicating probable archival sources and bibliography. The outline may be focused on the political, social and cultural aspects of the late 1940s through the early 1960s. Citations must be in footnote format.

Financial Details:
Harvard University and UC Berkeley participants may apply for travel stipends from their respective institutions. Costs of room and board during the workshop will be covered by East China Normal University.

Deadline for receipt of application form:  December 1, 2011
Deadline for receipt of research plan:   January 4, 2012
Notification of acceptance: February 10, 2012
