Abstract of the Lecture:

Among China’s ancient dynasties, the Yuan dynasty was the only one established by a northern nomadic people to rule over the whole of China, and could be seen as the most impressive and controversial dynasty in Chinese history. This lecture hopes to discuss the following contested topics among professional researchers: 1. Is the Yuan Dynasty a Chinese dynasty? 2. How should we evaluate the rule of the Yuan Dynasty? 3. How to view the historical role of Genghis Khan? 4. How to understand the mass massacres in the Mongolian conquest wars?
