Abstract of the Lecture:

The fire disaster had been frequently released from official documents since late Tang dynasty, peaking at Song Dynasty, and suddenly disappeared in Ming Dynasty. This lecture focuses on explaining this historical phenomenon from the perspectives of citizens’ daily lives, fire-fighting system, tax revenue and measures of disaster relief.

 

Brief Introduction of the Lecturer:

LIU Guanglin is a professor in history in Lingnan University. Before he joined in Lingnan, he was the associate professor in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Liu got his bachelor degree in Peking University and Ph.D. degree in Harvard University. He has research interests in the New Confucianism and traditional Chinese economic politics, historical economic analysis, Chinese military history and Chinese traditional society, politics and economy. He has published more than 10 peer reviewed papers at Economic History Review, Journal of National Taiwan University, Chinese Economic Studies, Journal of Tsinghua University. He has one monograph Chinese Market Economy, 1000-1500 AD.
